Glenn Haworth is ready to take on another World Record, this time with a Ukulele!
If you’re a fan and a dedicated supporter of Glenn Haworth and Haworth Guitars, and remember the awesome Guinness Book World Record that Glenn achieved by restringing over thirty guitars in an hour, then you’ll be chuffed to find out that he’ll be attempting a new challenged in October, playing a Maton Ukulele for twenty-four hours!
Talking to the awesome man himself, Glenn Haworth, he revealed all you need to know about the new World Record, the Maton Uke Haworth Guitars will be auctioning to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and what songs he may be playing on the uke!
Glenn, it is awesome what you’re doing, raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by attempting this new world record. Tell us about it.
Yeah it’s been a while since I’ve done something this crazy and fun so I thought I’d have a crack at this record and help out a great local charity in the meantime.
Make-A-Wish are an awesome charity that I’ve been involved with for the past few years with our school tours we do so I thought I’d see if I could help them out again by raising some more awareness and funds for them. I’ve been blown away by what a great response I’ve had from people supporting me so far. The full details for the event are on our facebook page. www.facebook.com/haworthguitars or more details will be on www.haworthguitars.com.au soon.
Having succeeded in re-stringing thirty guitars in an hour four years ago, and now to be playing the ukulele for twenty-four hours. How does it feel to be starting a new Guinness Book of World Records challenge?
I felt like it was time to dust off the old World Record Boots again and give a new record a crack. I really enjoyed the challenge from the last record and this time I wanted to get Make-A-Wish on board which I know will help them out too so it’s a win win.
How will you get yourself prepared and pumped for this new challenge?
I have mostly just been doing finger exercises for eight hours a day, seven days a week. Not really, but I have been working on my uke skills and have pretty much got fifty songs down pat so far. I think I’ll maybe practice staying awake all night so I can make sure I last the distance. Know any good movies?
Tell us a bit about the Maton ukulele you’ll be playing and auctioning to raise funds for Make-A-Wish.
Maton have volunteered to custom build two Ukulele’s for the record. I don’t know much about them at this stage but I think they will use the Haworth Guitars logo as well as the Maton logo. We will auction one uke off and keep one for promotional purposes.
Have you chosen a song that you’ll be playing for the duration of twenty-four hours? If not what songs do you have in mind?
I’ll be playing a few classic uke songs and also throwing in some random tunes just to spice it up a little. Hopefully I wont have to sing the whole time and can get some other folks up to sing some melodies.
Have the Haworth dudes volunteered to help you with food and drink whilst you’re playing?
Yeah I’ve got a few volunteers lined up so far; Family, friends and some of the Haworth crew. I’ll need a decent crew to run the event like timers and people to give me sponge baths while I play.
What else do Haworth fans need to know about this awesome event in October?
